The Bakersfield Little Big Band

December 3, 2017

A not for profit organization dedicated to promoting Jazz in the San Fernando Valley.

Get ready, the Valley Jazz Club welcomes for their second time the Bakersfield Little Big Band. We found out about this band from Bettye who visited our club last summer and thought we would be a good fit for their band. This group played for us just last March and the response from our members and guests was very positive. So, we decided to have a big band perform for you all in December as our Christmas gift to you all and we decided to invite the Bakersfield Little Big Band back for another performance.

Bettye Stachowiak met Terry Cano through his involvement with the local jazz community in Bakersfield.  Impressed with the music and clinics Terry presented, Bettye asked Terry to write some arrangements for a Big Band Holiday Extravaganza she was gathering in 2015.  The audience (and Terry) was impressed and "The Bakersfield Little Big Band" was formed.  Terry, now semi-retired, moved from Los Angeles to Bakersfield in 2016 and became the music director and "front man" for the Bakersfield Little Big Band. Terry's talent for writing amazing arrangements has inspired some of the band members to write arrangements as well.  BLBB has performed at the Kern County Museum, Trouts, Bakersfield Women's Club, and other non-profit groups.  The band is comprised of music educators and other professionals from around the Kern County area.

Band members: Bettye Stachowiak, alto sax(leader) - Brett Clausen, tenor sax—Aaron Sorenson, bari sax—Mickey Murray, trumpet—Alejandro Arvizu, trumpet—Chris Hoover, trombone—Danny Lopez, drums—Josh Faria, bass—Jeff Adray, guitar—Terry Cano, piano (music director) - Paula Einstein and Carolyn DeMolfetto, vocalists.

Bring your dancing shoes as we welcome this great group back to our club for a second time. Be sure you don’t miss this last meeting of 2017 and bring a friend or two along with you. Don’t forget the Elk’s has lunch and beverages available at reasonable prices.

Also, be sure to bring some non-perishable foods or toys to the December meeting for our annual donation drive to help the West Valley Food Pantry. Your donations help families in need right here in our local area. Thanks for all your support in the past.
